What is Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) means?
The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) refers to uniform nomenclature of five security forces in India under the authority of Ministry of Home Affairs namely BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP and Sashastra Seema Bal.
BSF : The Border Security Force (BSF) is a Border Guarding Force of India. Established on December 1, 1965, it is a paramilitary force charged with guarding India's land border during peace time and preventing transnational crime. It currently stands as the world's largest border guarding force.
CRPF: The Central Reserve Police Force came into existence as Crown Representative’s Police on 27th July 1939. It became the Central Reserve Police Force on enactment of the CRPF Act on 28th December 1949. It has completed 77 years of glorious history. The Force has grown into a big organization with 240 Bns, (including 207 executive Bns, 6 Mahila Bns, 10 RAF Bns, 10 CoBRA Bns, 5 Signal Bns and 1 Special Duty Group, 1 Parliament Duty Group), 43 Group Centres, 20 Training Institutions, 3 CWS, 7 AWS, 3 SWS, 4 Composite Hospitals of 100 bed and 17 Composite Hospitals of 50 bed.
CISF : The CISF came into existence in 1969 with a modest beginning, having three battalions, to provide integrated security cover to the Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) which, in those years, occupied the commanding heights of the economy. Instead, it has become a premier multi-skilled security agency of the country, mandated to provide security to major critical infrastructure installations of the country in diverse areas. CISF is currently providing security cover to nuclear installations, space establishments, airports, seaports, power plants, sensitive Government buildings and ever heritage monuments. Among the important responsibilities recently entrusted to the CISF are the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, VIP Security, Disaster Management and establishment of a Formed Police Unit (FPU) of the UN at Haiti.
ITBP: ITBPF was raised on 24 Oct,1962. Presently, ITBP is deployed on border guarding duties from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh covering 3488 km of Indo-China Border and manning Border Outposts on altitudes ranging from 9000’ to 18700’ in the Western, Middle and Eastern sectors of the Indo-China Border. ITBPF is a specialized mountain force and most of the officers and men are professionally trained mountaineers and skiers. Being the first responder for natural disaster, ITBPF has been carrying out numerous rescue and relief operations across the country.
Sashastra Seema Bal: SSB was declared as a Border Guarding Force in 15th January, 2001 and renamed as "Sashastra Seema Bal" on 15th December, 2003. SSB is now spread along Indo-Nepal and Indo Bhutan International border across Uttarakhand, UP, Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. SSB’s present charter of duties is to: Safeguard the security of assigned borders of India and promote sense of security among the people living in border areas, Prevent trans-border crimes, smuggling and any other illegal activities, Prevent unauthorized entry into or exit from the territory of India, Carry out civic action program in the area of responsibility, Perform any other duty assigned by the Central Government. SSB is being deployed for Law & Order, Counter Insurgency Operations and Election duty
How to Be Assistant Commandant (AC) in BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP and Sashastra Seema Bal ?
UPSC conducts CAPF AC Examination once every year to recruit Assistant Commandant (AC) in BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP and Sashastra Seema Bal.
Can Women appear in UPSC CAPF AC Examination?
Female candidates are not eligible to apply for ITBP, They can join BSF, CISF, CRPF , Sashastra Seema Bal
What is the pattern of UPSC CAPF AC Examination?
General ability & intelligence- This paper will have MCQ( Multiple Choice Questions) type questions. The question paper will be available both in English and Hindi. The total mark will be 250.
General studies, essay & comprehension- In this paper the candidates will have the option of writing component either in Hindi or English. The medium of writing will only be English for Precise, comprehension, other language skills. The maximum marks for this paper will be 200.
What is the Selection Process of UPSC CAPF AC Examination?
The candidates have to qualify these stages for final selection as, written examination, Physical & Medical standards Tests and Physical efficiency test (PET) and Personal Interview. Aspirants should be able to qualify in all these stages.
What is the syllabus of UPSC CAPF AC Examination?
Paper I: General Ability and Intelligence
General Science, General Mental Ability, Indian Polity and Economy, Current Events of National and International Importance, Indian and World Geography, History of India
Paper II: General Studies, Essay, and Comprehension
Part A: Essay questions from the topic are modern Indian history especially of the polity and economy, geography, knowledge of security and human rights issues, freedom struggle and analytical ability.
Part B: Comprehension, precise writing, other communications/language skills – to be attempted in English only (Marks 120) from the topics are précis writing, developing counter arguments, Comprehension passages, simple grammar and other aspects of language.
